What Every Visitor Should Know About Floyd
The Basics
Floyd is a great place to visit with your family. There is a unique culture to be found here and those of you seeking authentic Appalachian crafts and toe-tapping mountain music will find it here in abundance. About one in ten of Floyd County's 15,000 citizens is a musician, a craftsperson, or both.
For those seeking fine art and sculpture, fine handcrafted furniture, or extraordinary pottery, we have that also and we have institutions and groups that offer lessons in everything from pastels, to papermaking, and fine blacksmithing.
At the same time, the county is wired for fiber and you can get high speed access to the Internet from almost anywhere in the County, if you know where to connect.
Floyd is a wonderful place to live whether you are working of retired, but it has limited local industry so you need to bring your job with you if you want to live in the style to which you have been accustomed.
Floyd County is a State of Mind as well as a Lifestyle

The town of Floyd has one stoplight, so if you can see a stoplight you are in the center of town. This also serves as the starting point for almost every set of directions you will receive. Your directions will sound like this: "First go to the stoplight and....
People don't dress fancy in Floyd. The only way you can tell the players is to watch them in action. People will judge you by your words and deeds, although they will make allowances for strangers wearing city clothes.
